I remember having to learn this poem in school - and am so touched by your titling this beautiful piece that way. How right for the moment. A wonderful tribute to all those who died in WW1. If only we had learned from all those senseless deaths. This is marvelous. F/L

IN FLANDERS FIELDS POEM
The World’s Most Famous WAR MEMORIAL POEM
By Lieutenant Colonel John McCrae

Lieutenant Colonel John McCraeIn Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place: and in the sky
The larks still bravely singing fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the dead: Short days ago,

To you, from failing hands, we throw
The torch: be yours to hold it high
If ye break faith with us who die,
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields

Composed at the battlefront on May 3, 1915
during the second battle of Ypres, Belgium

On May 2, 1915, John McCrae’s close friend and former student Alexis Helmer was killed by a German shell. That evening, in the absence

wholisticartsschool.com I was born and raised in Flanders, Belgium. I came to the US when I was just short of 19 years of age. Painting has for ever been, to me, a safer way of expressing the many things that I am passionate about. I explode with excitement for life and am eager to share these feelings with the world. The colors of paint and the movements of the brushes conceal treasures, yet to be discovered. I cannot wait, when I start a new canvas, while having the basic idea in my head, to see how the painting will evolve. I talk to the canvas and oh does it talk back to me.
