Description
The USDA is predicting Nebraska's wheat crop could be the smallest since 1944.
from KOAA.com
While farmers are doing their part by growing the same number of acres as last year, expectations are lower for harvest.
Germination of the plots has been hampered by dry conditions since last fall.
The outlook for this year's crop isn't promising with the USDA predicting 15% less grain this year from the same number of planted
acres.
"The irrigated looks pretty good," said Bob Klein, a cropping specialist. "The dry land in this area, because of our lack of stands and lack
of soil water, yields are going to greatly be down."
It's important to remember the effects that low wheat output will have on other crops.
Dry conditions have allowed farmers to use harvest aids to speed maturity in the crops, while also helping battle weeds.
